Ever wondered multiplying a two digit number by 11 can be done within a few seconds ?
The answer for the above query is 'Yes' Absolutely. With certain few steps and a daily consistent practice this can be mastered by each one of us.
Ex. 45 × 11
Step 1 :- We multiply 5 by 11 which is 55
Step 2 :- Then we write unitary digit i.e 5 at result and we then take carry Tens digit i.e. 5
Step 3 :- Again we multiply 4 by 11 and which results 44 and add the Tens digit we have carried which can be calculated as 44 + 5 = 49
Final Result - We get 495.Let us learn the Short Cut Method for the same problem.
Step 1 :- Divide the Result Space in 3 Parts as shown
Write the Tens digit (i.e. 4) at Left most Space in the result, Unitary digit(i.e. 5) at the Rightmost Space in the result and the addition on both the digits (i.e. 4 + 5 = 9) in the Middle Space in the result.
Final Result - We get 495.
Problems for Practice -
1) 36 × 11
2) 71 × 11
3) 53 × 11
4) 34 × 11
5) 27 × 11Note - There is an extra step when the addition of the digits of the given two digit number is more than 9
Ex. 67 × 11
Step 1 :- Divide the Result Space in 3 Parts as shown
Write the Tens digit (i.e. 6) at Left most Space in the result, Unitary digit(i.e. 7) at the Rightmost Space in the result and the addition on both the digits (i.e. 6 + 7 = 13) in the Middle Space in the result.
Step 2 :- As we can see the addition of both the digits exceeds 9 hence we will Add 1 to the Tens digit and write 3 as it is in middle space in the result.
Final Result - 737
Problems for Practice -
1) 48 × 11
2) 69 × 11
3) 77 × 11
4) 37 × 11
5) 58 × 11
